The Malones take Kansas City
Family reunion…. oh how I love this time! I remember those summers growing up, heading out of town for the family reunion. That’s when I was first bitten by the travel bug.
Travel opened up my horizons as a kid. From then on I knew I had to see what the rest of the world was like. This year we held our biennial celebration in the show me state, Kansas City, Missouri #followtheyellowbrickroad
This year with the hashtag #malonefamilymatters.
I’m not a huge fan of long road trips so going from Memphis, Tn to Kansas City wasn’t on my list of fun family activities. But in usual family reunion fashion we loaded up and headed out in a Fleetwood Winnebago. With 7 adults and 2 three year olds to be exact.
If you haven’t tried sour air heads you are missing out. My cousin picked some up for the kids during a gas stop. These are everything! I loved the watermelon flavor growing up. Yea, yea I know processed food but hey it’s for nostalgia sake.
So the first night was Rep Your City (In my Lil John voice) our casual meet and greet night . We represented from Memphis, Nashville, Baltimore, St. Louis, Oakland, Biloxi, and of course Kansas City.
The following day was Derby themed. Everyone was finely dressed with oversized hats. I however wore a fascinator. With a live band, good food, open bar and our first mini horse race we jammed the night away.
Much to my surprise I found Kansas City to be a really nice family friendly city. The last day of the reunion our family bar b que was held at Leawood City park. With Memphis roots my family can definitely throw down on the bar b que with just enough of that sweet Kansas city flavor peaking through. Not to mention this park is perfect for kids with a new large state of the art playground to keep the kids entertained.
As we made ready to head back to Memphis, it’s our tradition to elect our next host for the upcoming family reunion. Thanks to my cousin Diane the 2019 host city will be NOLA!!! I can’t wait! I will definitely spend more than a weekend in the great city of New Orleans. Oysters, beignets and Bourbon street here we come! The Malone takeover NOLA edition.
